Shape Up Kids Study

Study Type

Study Purpose

The Shape Up Kids research study can help your kids learn about their health while helping researchers build new technologies to understand the human body. The study will test new imaging machines that use light waves to measure 3D body shape. We will compare them to other scans that look at bones, muscles, and organs. This will help scientists understand how body shape is related to factors like physical strength and heart health.

About the Study

Researchers will use results from multiple different imaging tools to see how body shape on the outside is related to body health on the inside. Participants will come to the Pennington Biomedical clinic for one visit. All procedures in this study have minimal risk. After the visit, kids and their parents can receive copies of their health information at no cost.

Study Design

Number of Visits:

  • 1 study visit

  • Body measurements (height, weight, etc.)
  • 3D Imaging Scan (to measure body volume)
  • DXA Scan (to measure bone, muscle and body fat)

Study Qualifications

To qualify for this research study, participants should:

  • Be 5 to 17 years of age
  • Not have metal in the body. Specific requirements will be assessed at screening.
